Online

Grades 5K-12th Grade

This program is fully virtual for our students.  Students participate in their classes asynchronously.  Students will be assigned a local coach whom they meet with at a regular time through a video call.  There are in-person support opportunities that students can take advantage of.

Hybrid

Grades 6th-12th Grade

This program allows students to take up to 2 classes at either Karcher Middle School or Burlington High School based on their grade level, while taking the rest of their classes virtually.  Students participate in their online classes asynchronously.  Students will be assigned a local coach whom they meet with at a regular time through a video call.  There are additional support opportunities that students can take advantage of.

Book Based

Grades 4K-8th Grade

This program uses an asynchronous book-based curriculum program.  All of our book-based students are assigned a BASD teacher who will work with students and families weekly on individualized plans, skills, and lessons.  There will be required class times that students must attend.  Students in this program will submit a quarterly portfolio.

High School Enrichment Options

  • Our students can earn dual credits by enrolling in Advanced Placement classes.   They also can enroll in Start College Now and the Early College Credit Program, as allowed by the state of Wisconsin, to earn credit at a college campus while still enrolled as a student in BASD. For each college credit earned, students will receive .25 credit towards graduation requirements for Burlington High School.

The rigor and focus of these courses can be an educational benefit to those who enroll and meet the expectations of the classes. Students and parents/guardians should be aware that if a student receives a failing grade or fails to complete a course at an institution of higher education for which the school board has made payment, the parent or guardian (or student if he/she is 18 years of age) is required to reimburse the school district the amount paid by the school board on the student’s behalf. (WI statute 118.55)

  • We are proud to offer numerous programs that offer real-life job and life experiences  that give our graduates an edge in the workforce. Students can broaden their horizons by participating in work-based learning in their desired field.

  • Beyond WisCo is a life-skills program that prepares high school students for the academic, social, and real-world challenges ahead. Built on the values of being prepared, respectful, logical, involved, and resilient, it helps teens gain confidence, communication skills, and the character needed to be Good Humans and well-rounded leaders.

  • Online students in Grades 6-12

Open Lab is a dedicated in person space where students can work independently, stay on track with coursework, and receive additional academic support in a safe and welcoming environment. During Open Lab, students have access to staff who can answer questions, provide guidance, and help troubleshoot challenges in real time. The space is designed to support focus, build confidence, and encourage positive learning habits—whether students need help with an assignment, extra time to catch up, or simply a structured place to work. Open Lab promotes collaboration, accountability, and student well-being while reinforcing a supportive school community.

  • Family Engagement Opportunities are designed to strengthen the partnership between families and our school community. Through in person or virtual events, workshops, meetings, and school activities, families are invited to connect with staff, stay informed about student progress, and learn ways to support learning at home. These opportunities create space for open communication, shared decision-making, and collaboration, ensuring families feel valued, heard, and supported. By engaging families as active partners, we help students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally in our virtual learning environment.
